Highlighted in the conducted seminar by the CCJE was the Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004, is a Philippine law aimed at safeguarding women and children from diverse forms of abuse, offering legal measures and support services to victims.
Dr. Ramil M. Las-Igan, the component project head, covered the crucial components of R.A. 9262, focusing on Sections 1 to 15. Meanwhile, Dr. Lian Carla C. Luzong, then addressed Sections 16 to 31, exploring legal remedies and law enforcement obligations. Ms. Marie Fe F. Buscayno, the overall project head, further shared insights into Sections 31 to 50, explaining protection orders and legal steps for their acquisition.
After each presentation, a Q&A session allowed participants to seek clarifications, share personal experiences, and gain a comprehensive understanding of how the law applies to their unique circumstances. Attendees were actively encouraged to inquire about their rights and essential actions in case of violence.
“Masaya po ako na nagkaroon ng ganitong activity sa aming barangay dahil marami po kayong matutulungan lalo na kaming wala masyadong alam sa mga batas, dahil po dito gagawa na kaming aksyon sa nangyaring pananakit sa aking pamangkin at sa kaniyang mga anak, sisiguraduhin ko po na ang mga nalaman ko dito sa seminar na ito ay aming magagamit kaagapay ng aming mga barangay officials”Lola Virgie, a 69 year-old participant of the seminar, said.
The seminar significantly advanced Sustainable Development Goal 16 by spreading essential knowledge on R.A. 9262, empowering individuals, and creating a platform for community members to understand their rights, thereby promoting a safer and fairer society.
