Tarlac State University, through the College of Teacher Education and College of Science, conducted a 2-day teacher’s training focused on strategies and tools in teaching Science and Mathematics subjects in Mayantoc, Bamban, and San Clemente Tarlac.

The capacity-building training was conducted in Dueg High School on May 16 and 23 and in Moriones High School and Carabaon-Caocaoayan High School on June 6 and 7, 2022. It was attended by 60 Junior High School and Senior High School teachers from the various public schools in Tarlac.

Participating schools include Dueg High School in Mayantoc; Moriones High School, Villa Aglipay High School, and Mababanaba High School in San Jose; and Carabaoan-Caocaoayan High School, Labney Integrated School, and San Bartolome High School in Mayantoc, Tarlac.

The training provided teachers with various teaching strategies to engage the students and promote active involvement in class. Moreover, it emphasized the need to make learning Science and Mathematics collaborative, fun and interactive.

Faculty experts from CTED and COS shared different teaching approaches covering a wide range of topics in Science and Mathematics subjects. Science topics like Physics, Ecosystem Concepts, and Earth and Space science were discussed by the Science Group (Dr. Ronnie Angelo Dungo, Dr. Cynthia G. Quiambao, Jayson Y. Punzalan, and Sharmaine Guiang), while Math topics such as Number Sense, Basic Geometry, Patterns and Algebra, Measurements, and Statistics were covered by the Math Group (Dr. Nancy L. Mati, Chris Mark V. Catalan, Ezra Gil S. Lagman, and Mariliz L. Sison).

Said training aimed to improve the capability of teachers through an increase in their knowledge of content, upgrading their competence in teaching and assessing their learning. In addition, it aimed to help teachers guide their students, who mostly belong to the IP community, to pass the DOST Scholarship Examination after graduating from Senior High School.
