Aimed to promote personal and environmental hygiene and habits and educate parents on how to nurture their children with difficulty learning, the Colleges of Science and Teacher Education organized an outreach activity for the students, parents, and teachers of Mapalad Elementary School on August 11, 2022.
Forty children received their hygiene package, which included soap, facemasks, alcohol, toothbrush and toothpaste, and pair of slippers. In addition, approximately thirty parents were given a lecture on parenting skills.
The outreach initiatives, which included various activities, were carried out simultaneously. Dr. Norbina Genever Castro led a brief lecture for parents to impart parenting skills and approaches for dealing with challenges encountered by their children during the learning period. On the other hand, Dr. Cynthia Quiambao conducted a focus group discussion with the teachers to identify their challenges and problems.
Mr. Jomer Manalang, COS Extension Chairperson, instructed and directed pupils in appropriate handwashing by singing the "Happy Birthday" song. Moreover, Ms. Vanesa Albino provided some vegetable plants for the school. She also co-led the distribution of hygiene kits with Mr. Jomer Manalang and Dr. Felicitas Quilondrino.
The closing activity. Mrs. Jennifer G. Agrano, school head of Mapalad Elementary School, gave her heartful and most profound gratitude for the TSU's support.
The accomplished outreach activity by COS and CTED aligned and contributes to goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and goal 4 (Quality Education) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda.
