DCT taps TDTCO for Latest Marketing Trend

In accordance with the rise of Marketing in today’s modern business world, protection of Intellectual Property is essential for promoting innovation. Dominican College of Tarlac – Marketing Department sought the expertise of TDTCO’s Director Dr. Wilmark J. Ramos, the expert resource speaker last December 5, 2022. The event was conducted in a virtual setting via Zoom entitled Webinar on Latest Marketing Trends: Intellectual Property in Marketing.

 

The webinar head started with a question by Dr. Ramos asking students their knowledge level on the role of Intellectual Property in Marketing, to assess their knowledge about the topic, shortly after, the discussion opened with the meaning and definition of Intellectual Property wherein Dr. Ramos emphasized that Intellectual Property refers to the creations of the mind and it can be distinguished into inventions, literary and artistic works, and designs used in the business industry.

 

The talk swayed towards the differentiation of Intellectual Property, Patent, Trademark, and Copyright. The aforementioned components were further discussed, one at a time, to aid the participants in developing a deeper understanding of the topic. Additionally, Dr. Ramos cited practical examples and real court cases to showcase the importance of Intellectual Property in commerce, from its role to the legal rights it holds. The jurisprudence examples began with Intellectual Property up to Copyright. The distinction between a patent and a utility model was also discussed.

 

The participants were given the chance to ask the ESP a question at the end of the discussion in order to get things clearer and have a better understanding of the matter. For the ESP to further enhance his community services, the meeting's very last segment included an online evaluation of the entire activity.

 

In general, the completed extension activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly, SDG 04, Quality Education, particularly with regards to the importance of Intellectual Property in Marketing, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussion was meant to emphasize the significance of Intellectual Property in innovation, which is a goal of SDG 9 or Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which is supported by this activity.
