On September 09, 2022, Tarlac State University through the College of Science- BS Food Technology Department conducted a webinar titled “Seminar on How to Apply for Food and Drug Administration-License to Operate (FDA-LTO)” to the different Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Business owners assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) -Bulacan.

Dr. Lea B. Milan, Level III accredited Go Negosyo Mentor of DTI and a faculty of BS Technology Department, served as the resource speaker during the activity which was conducted via Zoom Video Conferencing room.

The discussion started by comparing the Certification of Product Registration (CPR) to LTO. She emphasized the importance of LTO as it is needed to secure and operate an establishment. The classifications of LTO were then discussed.

The activity highlighted discussions about the tutorial on the step-by-step procedures how to access the electronic portal, from the preparation of legal and technical documents and compliance to audit findings. Dr. Milan also included the Frequently Asked Questions on her discussion related to the acquisition of LTO. After the discussion, an open forum session was facilitated to address the issues and concerns of the applicants on the registration of the said FDA-LTO.

By introducing the procedures on how to get the license, the completed extension activity of COS-BS Food Technology can assist the MSMEs on the acquisition of food safety compliance. This promotes job opportunities since MSMEs are considered as the backbone of the economy.  Thus, the activity would directly contribute to Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

In addition, the said webinar contributes to Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). It helps in providing additional revenue that may be utilized to purchase good-quality food to lead a healthy life.

Furthermore, the completed activity is contributory to Goal 3 (Good Health and Well Being) of SDG. As establishments to be used to produce goods are being evaluated by FDA, it guarantees the welfare and safety of the consumers.
