CASS conducts Effective Communication and Service Protocol Seminar

Dr. Gladie Natherine Cabanizas, a professor in the College of Arts and Social Sciences efficaciously completed a four-day seminar training regarding "Effective Communication and Service Protocol" on behalf of the Non-Commissioned Officer School, Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army, Camp O'Donnel, Capas, Tarlac.

The activities, which included participation by the Philippine Army with ranks ranging from Technical Sergeant to Sergeant Major from the various units and offices of the Philippines, were aimed at enhancing the proper and effective use of communication through oral and written language, producing scholarly research papers specifically Situation Research, and proper protocols and social graces in the military.

The Extension Service Provider explained the term correspondence as written communication that delivers information and ideas to the reader and addressee during a discussion with our army soldiers about forms and distinctions between civilian and military correspondence. This also establishes a link between the writer and the reader. On the other hand, military correspondence is a kind of communication that involves practically every aspect of military life and is mostly constituted of messages, letters, and endorsements.

Moreover, the ESP also covered how to format and write a memorandum and the training as Philippine Army Sergeant Majors from various Army units in developing communication skills related to their field of work, such as the Characteristics/Features of Military Correspondence, the Parts, Format, and Spacing of Military Subject to Letter, Types of Command or Authority Line, Disposition Form, and Social Graces.

The Situation Research conducted by each class syndicate was one of the crucial components of the seminar training. It seeks to present contemporary difficulties and problems along and with how they deal with and seek solutions. Such, facilities or an e-library specifically, which is necessary to make accessible the studies or article done by their other colleagues which can be used as their reference to improve the services of the Philippine Army, the gender discrimination within the army, particularly for the previous experiences of female army soldiers during the interview which served as one of their requirements to qualify as Sergeant Major, were the topics they covered during their presentation. Additionally, Dr. Cabanizas commended the Sergeant Major's sincere devotion throughout the seminar training. She was also listing recommendations on how to strengthen the content and out of their research and gave the assurance that she would cooperate in improving the research papers by providing guidance and mentoring to each class syndicate.

Sergeant Majors was grateful for Dr. Cabanizas’ time and effort. Each person actively participated and expressed gratitude for the teachings the ESP had taught them. Their efforts to improve their military letter-writing, and speaking abilities, augment competencies and promote national harmony were wholesome and successful.

The accomplished training seminar done by the CASS aligned and contributes to goal 16 (Peace Justice and Strong Institutions) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda. From the aforementioned information above, it emphasized the willingness and commitment of our Philippine Army to spend their time learning on improving and extending their capacity to attain personal development and sustain peace among their stakeholders.
