CASS’ Communication Department conducts Social Mobilization Activities for DSWD Amor Village

TSU College of Arts and Social Sciences, through the Communication Department, conducted 2-day social mobilization activities on December 5 and 16, 2022 at DSWD Amor Village, Anao, Tarlac.

Second-year TSU Communication students, together with their class facilitators Mr. Marco Polo Flores and Ms. Jazzel Llaneli Manabat, initiated the mobilization activity. The activity aimed to impart sustainable agricultural practices among the individuals and staff of the DSWD AMOR Village towards improving nutrition and achieving food security. This activity also served as the final output of the BA Communication students for the course COMM103B – Development Communication.

The first part of the activity titled ‘COMMunidad: Punla ng Pag-asa, Pag-angat ng Bawat Isa – A Social Mobilization Activity on SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth’ under the class of Ms. Jazzell Llaneli Manabat was conducted on December 5 while the second part titled ‘COMMakaway ang Pag-asa: Pagsibol at Kalusugan ng Bawat Isa – A Social Mobilization Activity on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption’ under the class of Mr. Marco Polo Flores was conducted on December 16, 2022. The activities include ‘Jingle Presentation’, ‘Pagtatanim ng Punla’, ‘Pag-anlaw sa Kamay ng Kalusugan’, ‘Tatakan ang Pader ng Pag-asa’, and ‘Hand Washing (Application).

The DSWD Amor Village is a government-run that provides a home for children with special needs who were abused, neglected, and abandoned by their respective families. The facility provides world-class services for rehabilitation, recovery, and development to children so that they can eventually be integrated into the community.

This completed extension activity of CASS contributes to goals 2 (Zero Hunger), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) of the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda. Through this kind of social mobilization activity, beneficiaries are being imparted sustainable agricultural practices towards improving nutrition and achieving food security.
