The Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), led by Engr. Murphy Mohammed and Expert Service Providers—Engr. Charmaine Czeninia Reguindin, Engr. Orlando Sico, Engr. Joshua Jay Jetomo, Engr. Kervin Melchor, Engr. Ma. Jan Nickole Estrada, Engr. Randy Policarpio, Engr. Leonides Tatu, and Engr. Susa Nina Sapad—officially completed the extension project for the San Jose Creek in Gerona, Tarlac. On January 23, 2026, the team successfully turned over the design and structural analysis to the Municipal Government, formally received by the Municipal Engineer, Engr. Teodoro Cabanes.
This extension project entailed the development of a flood-resilient creek and bridge infrastructure tailored for the community of Barangay San Jose in Gerona, Tarlac. The area was identified through a needs assessment as highly susceptible to seasonal flooding.
The identified vulnerabilities—particularly the inadequate capacity of the existing creek and the obsolete bridge structure—adversely affected residents, farmers, and daily commuters, resulting in property damage, agricultural losses, and restricted mobility.
The scope of the project included site reconnaissance, watershed delineation using QGIS, hydrologic and hydraulic simulations utilizing HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, and the design of reinforced concrete channels and a structurally optimized bridge. These were developed in accordance with the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 2015 and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) standards. The approach adopted a simulation-based methodology that integrated both hydrologic and hydrodynamic analyses to ensure infrastructure resilience under various flood return periods.
