TSU CET conducts an Emergency and Disaster Risk Reduction Preparedness Seminar in Mayantoc

Tarlac State University - College of Engineering and Technology (TSU - CET), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), successfully implemented its activity series of empowering and training Indigenous Communities (IPs) in the province of Tarlac entitled "Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Seminar." Spearheaded by faculty experts from the Industrial Engineering Department on January 30, 2023, conducted at its third chosen community, the Brgy. Labney, Mayantoc, Tarlac.This activity provides information on safety, emergency, and disaster preparedness and protects communities by introducing science-based information technologies for disaster prevention and mitigation.

Tarlac State University - College of Engineering and Technology (TSU - CET), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), successfully implemented its activity series of empowering and training Indigenous Communities (IPs) in the province of Tarlac entitled "Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Seminar." Spearheaded by faculty experts from the Industrial Engineering Department on January 30, 2023, conducted at its third chosen community, the Brgy. Labney, Mayantoc, Tarlac.This activity provides information on safety, emergency, and disaster preparedness and protects communities by introducing science-based information technologies for disaster prevention and mitigation.

Engr. Ann Jeannette S. Lopez served as resource speaker, accompanied by other Expert Service Providers (ESPs), including Engr. Dick S. Tuazon and Engr. Maan B. Florendo. Engr. Lopez discussed emergency preparedness and the impact of various hazards on our communities. She demonstrated the "drop, cover, and hold," to which participants eagerly participated. During a natural disaster, Engr. Lopez reminded the participants to always look for evacuation centers or safe places. She also emphasized having an emergency or survival kit with important documents, food, water, a flashlight, extra clothes, and other items. She concluded her presentation by providing the participants with various hotline numbers in case of an emergency. To formally complete the activity, participants had the opportunity to observe and learn from Engr. Dick S. Tuazon demonstrated a step-by-step on how to use a fire extinguisher, and they also received leaflets titled "Handa Ka Ba?" An Emergency and Disaster Preparedness IEC Material, prepared by expert service providers.

This extension activity contributes to Sustainable Development (SDG) Goal 4 (Quality Education) as this seminar provides life-long learning and awareness of the Dos and Don'ts during emergencies and disasters. Furthermore, by encouraging participants' caution and interactive capacity to hazards and natural disasters, the seminar contributes to Goal 13 (Climate Action). Moreover, by connecting TSU, DOST, and Mayantoc IPs, the activity contributes to SDG Goal 17 (Partnership for Goals).
