Baras-Baras High School tapped the expertise of the TSU Communication Department for Basic Radio Broadcasting Training. Twenty-three students participated in the activity on February 8, 2023, at Tarlac State University Radio Station.

Aimed to further equip and enhance the journalism competence of Tibag Elementary School students with much-needed skills in the field of radio broadcasting and develop their journalistic skills, the extension activity was also conducted to spark interest in the students in the arts of broadcast communication.

The participants were members of The Sentinel, the official campus publication of Baras-Baras High School, spearheaded by their school paper adviser Mr. Jon Henry Ordonez, and with the guidance of their school head Dr. Mamerti L. Ragel.

The students were given a short lecture on radio scriptwriting and basic sound editing during the session. Moreover, they were given techniques and strategies for proper and effective radio broadcasting. The students were also allowed to go on air and experience a hands-on radio disc jocking, guided by the TSU 87.5 Firefox Radio’s in-house radio jockeys.

Mr. Michael John R. Hipolito, AKA DJ Macko Gwapito of Love Radio Tarlac, Mr. Winifredo L. Luis, AKA RJ Louie B, and Ms. Maria Fermina Joyce C. Nucum (TSU Firefox Radio Supervisor) served as the resource persons. At the same time, Mr. Rudolf Galzote (Technical Staff of TSU Firefox Radio) was the technical facilitator.

This completed extension activity of CASS contributes to goal 4 (Quality Education) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda.
