To further equip the student journalists with much-needed skills in the field of journalism and develop their journalistic skills, Guevara High School tapped TSU’s faculty experts to talk about different categories of campus journalism. The school press conference was conducted on December 7, 2022, at the Guevara High School, La Paz, Tarlac.
More than a hundred students coming from three public schools in La Paz North District (Guevara High School, Comillas High School, and La Paz National High School) joined the said training.
Faculty experts from TSU – Communication Department served as the resource speakers: Ms. Nerissa Olarte (News Writing and Headlining), Ms. Janice Dela Cruz (Copy Reading and Writing Writing), Mr. John Lanuzo (Photojournalism), Mr. Jovito Taruc (Sports Writing and Editorial Writing), Mr. Marco Polo Flores (Science Writing), and Mr. Michael John Hipolito (TV and Radio Broadcasting).
Aside from giving lectures on the mentioned topics, the ESPs also served as judges and evaluated the outputs of the students. They awarded and proclaimed the winners during the awarding ceremony held on the same day.
Campus journalism has long been implemented through the Republic Act 7079, or Campus Journalism Act of 1991, which prescribed the implementation of campus journalism in both private and public schools in the Philippine
This completed extension activity of CASS contributes to Goal 4 (Quality Education) of the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda. Through this kind of activity, student journalists are given quality and relevant education which promotes lifelong learning opportunities for them in delivering their duty of guiding students to do responsible journalism.
