A community-based skill training on flavored banana chips production was organized and implemented by the Tarlac State University – College of Business and Accountancy, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, Provincial Science and Technology Center – Tarlac, and the Local Government Unit of Bamban last July 11, 2022.

The training left IP beneficiaries in Sitio Burog Bamban, Tarlac, with a potential livelihood that could help them establish a strong enterprise. Moreover, said skills training will aid them in venturing toward their new livelihood goals while also improving their community.

The beneficiaries were provided with a lecture and demonstration of the actual processing of banana chips through the expertise of Ms. Emmery Balbas and Mr. Ferdinand Silaran from the Hospitality Management Department of TSU – CBA. They demonstrated the process from peeling off and slicing bananas, rinsing, draining, frying, adding flavors, and up to packaging.

They also taught the trainees how to use the processing equipment like stainless steel preparation table, stainless steel mixing bowl, vegetable cutter, and dehydrator, all donated by the DOST. Moreover, all ingredients used were provided by them as well.

Entry point coordinator Ms. Christine Janelle M. Santiago said that they are planning to conduct Phase II to prepare the participants for the packaging, labelling, product costing, and marketing assistance to be provided by the TSU CBA group.

This completed extension of the CBA contributes to goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda.
