CTED and COS continue to assist on Brigada Eskwela

Tarlac State University- Colleges of Science and Teacher Education conducted a community outreach to support Canarem Elementary School’s Brigada Eskwela through Project SIGLA (Strengthening the Immunity and Growth of Learners towards Academic excellence) conducted on October 04, 2022.

 

The activities in the said extension community outreach includes seminars to the teachers, parents and students, gift giving and tree planting. It focused on promoting environmental awareness, personal hygiene, and health nutrition.

 

Mr. Jomer V. Manalang shared his expertise pertaining to Health and Nutrition. His discussion covered the following: Consequence of pneumonia, COVID-19, proper dental care, step-by step handwashing procedure, G foods (Go, Grow, and Glow foods), and proper ways of using facemask.

 

On the other hand, Dr. Alma M.Corpuz, Dr. Nancy L. Mati ,Ms. Vanessa G. Albino, faculty of COS, and Prof. Mary Jane N. Rigor, Dean of COS, facilitated the gift giving activity. The team also provided vitamins and supplements to the parents. Meanwhile, Hygiene and school supplies were given to the students. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 (K-3) received health kits, and Grades 4 to 6 pupils received schools supplies. Furthermore, the tree planting operations was held with the assistance of Supreme Pupil Government (SPG), school’s highest governing body, and the schoolteachers.

 

The completed extension activity of CTED and COS contributes to the Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as it will protect the participants’ health and safety from contracting and spreading COVID-19. In addition, the activity supports Goal 4 as it encourages lifetime learning on Hygiene and Nutrition. Moreover, the said outreach program helps in attaining Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals) as it is in partnership with Global Outreach for Community Empowerment Inc (GOCE), Tarlac State University and Department of Education-Division of Tarlac Province. As a result, the activity is contributory to Goals 3,4, and 17 of the SDG.
