In collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology–Tarlac (DOST–Tarlac), the Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), led by Engr. Neil Andrew Meneses, Engr. Rizza Gamalinda, and Engr. Danilo Alcantara Jr., conducted an onsite visit to FS2 Tailoring and JJJ Engineering on March 12, 2026, in Brgy. Aguso, Tarlac City. The partner enterprises are owned by Ms. Fremilyn Canlas and Engr. Joey Canlas.
FS2 Tailoring specializes in garment services, including T-shirt printing and sublimation, generating fabric scraps (retaso) as a major byproduct of its production process. To promote sustainable waste management, JJJ Engineering, which specializes in solar energy and masonry, proposed utilizing these fabric trimmings as a component in hollow block production.
The initiative aims to assess the feasibility of developing lightweight, durable, and environmentally sustainable construction materials by transforming textile waste into valuable engineering resources.
The extension activity concluded with a productive technical discussion on the parameters and requirements needed to advance the project into its testing and evaluation phase, demonstrating the partners' shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community-centered engineering solutions.
