As part of Project Aytalakad Ing Lahi, the Culturally Relevant Media component successfully conducted a two-day training and workshop on Hosting and Event Organizing on October 9–10, 2025, at the TSU Hotel, Lucinda Campus. The activity aimed to strengthen cultural identity, foster collaboration, and build the capacity of the Aeta Mag-Anchi community of Sitio Manabayukan in leading and managing cultural events.
The event was organized in partnership with the Office of University Extension Services (OUES) – Volunteerism Management Department, and in collaboration with the TSU Communicators’ Guild, 87.5 Firefox Radio, the Department of Communication, and the College of Arts and Social Sciences Student Council.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Jay Ann L. Pablo, Component Head of Culturally Relevant Media, emphasized the importance of the initiative, “Ito pong ginagawa natin ay para po sa inyo dahil kayo po ang magiging tagapagmana at tagapamahala sa Sitio Manabayukan sa mga susunod na taon, o sa hinaharap.”
The training was facilitated by Dr. Francelle Calub and Ms. Jay Ann Pablo, heads of Project Aytalakad Ing Lahi. It brought together Aeta Mag-Anchi participants and student-volunteers from the TSU Department of Communication, who shared their knowledge and expertise to empower the community through practical learning experiences.
The first day featured two major sessions. The morning session focused on hosting, led by Ms. Cristine Tiamzon, Mr. Nel Niño Aranzaso, and Ms. Marie Janice Dela Cruz.
Ms. Tiamzon introduced the fundamentals of hosting, distinguishing between being a host and the act of hosting, while encouraging participants to speak with confidence.
Following her, Mr. Aranzaso discussed the traits of an effective host, highlighting the importance of preparation, adaptability, and communication.
Then, Ms. Dela Cruz concluded the session with practical tips on etiquette, audience engagement, and maintaining stage presence
In the afternoon session, Mx. Lois Quinocho and Ms. Clarise Ann Dacanay guided participants through the essentials of event organizing. The session began with a lively energizer followed by the presentation of last year’s Aytaligsahan video documentation to provide context. They explained the three stages of event management—pre-event, during, and post-event—using relatable examples and interactive discussions. The session ended with an empowering affirmation, “Mahusay akong event organizer.”
The second day centered on hands-on activities where participants applied what they learned by designing and presenting their own event programs. Guided by Ms. Tiamzon and Mx. Quinocho, the Aeta Mag-Anchi showcased their hosting and organizational skills through performances inspired by the upcoming Aytaligsahan 2025.
Outstanding participants received surprise prizes, while certificates of appreciation were awarded to all speakers, partners, and participants. The event concluded with a photo opportunity and a heartfelt message from Ms. Irish Sibal, an Aeta Mag-Anchi participant, who expressed gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and faculty members for the valuable learning experience.
Through interactive discussions and practice-based learning, the Aeta Mag-Anchi participants gained confidence, discovered their potential, and prepared to take active roles in preserving and promoting their cultural heritage. Their participation in the upcoming Aytaligsahan 2025 stands as a testament to their growing leadership in cultural revitalization.
