Cebu City, Philippines – From September 24 to 27, 2024, three (3) distinguished representatives from Tarlac State University (TSU) took part in the Philippine Volunteer Service Program Workshop, hosted by Peace Corps Philippines and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA).
The training workshop was held at the Golden Prince Hotel and Suites in Cebu City, bringing together 52 key leaders from government agencies, schools, and civil society organizations. The aim was to strengthen volunteerism efforts across the country and integrate them into national development goals.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to collaborate and share ideas, drawing on successful models from US volunteer programs like the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. Discussions focused on using volunteerism as a tool for community empowerment and sustainable development in the Philippines.
TSU was represented by Dr. Erwin L. Lacanlale, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension; Engr. Emir Sicangco, Director of the Office of University Extension Services (OUES); and Ms. Jay Ann L. Pablo, Head of the Planning and Performance Management Department and the Technology and Knowledge Management Department.
Engr. Sicangco, as the University’s Volunteerism Focal Person, led the participation on behalf of the OUES, which serves as the university’s Volunteerism Focal Office.
TSU's participation reflects its commitment to establishing a volunteer framework and aligning it with the nation’s development goals and PSVP. The university looks forward to rolling out new initiatives that will boost community engagement and create positive social impact through volunteer efforts.
