On October 1, TSU officials welcomed representatives from the Peace Corps Philippines for an exploratory meeting focused on significantly enhancing the culture of volunteerism within the university community.
In attendance were Dr. Erwin Lacanlale, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension; Atty. Wilmark Ramos, Vice President for Administration and representative of University President Dr. Arnold Velasco; and Engr. Emir Lenard Sicangco, Director of OUES and Volunteerism Focal Person. The Peace Corps Philippines delegation included Program Manager Roberto Yangco, Program Specialist Elizabeth Jung, and Community Integration Coordinator Ana Georgina Ciriaco.
During the meeting, they explored strategies for coordinating volunteerism initiatives among existing student organizations and increasing student engagement through active recruitment of volunteers. They emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to strengthen university-wide efforts in volunteerism, ensuring that contributions across various departments are streamlined and impactful.
TSU officials expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to foster a culture of service among students while enhancing their leadership skills.
Additionally, the group identified several key individuals for potential collaboration on volunteerism initiatives, including Peace Corps Volunteers Ernie Arao from Vessels of Humanity, Vish Juvvad from DSWD Lingap Center, and Samantha Derkas from Caritas.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further explore the proposed initiatives and strengthen the partnership between the Peace Corps Philippinse and TSU.
