Cagayan de Oro City — Engr. Emir Lenard Sicangco, Director of the Office of University Extension Services and Volunteerism Focal Person of TSU, attended the National Volunteer Month (NVM) Kick-off event and other activities from December 1 to 3, 2024.
Spearheaded by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) every December, the NVM aims to raise the awareness and appreciation of Filipinos on volunteerism and recognize the individuals and organizations who contribute their time, effort, and service in volunteering for national development.
The kick-off event was held at Plaza Divisoria on December 1, which saw hundreds of participants join the Zumba and BayaniRUN activities, followed by an opening ceremony that featured messages from PNVSCA, NEDA Region X, LGU-CDO, and Forum ZFD, among others.
The lineup of activities for the entire month of December was also unveiled during the ceremony, with TSU being involved in the conduct of the International Volunteer Day celebration.
Engr. Sicangco also participated in the 2-day training program entitled “Igniting Change: Volunteerism and Gender Equity in Extension Services” organized by the Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementers Region X held at the Tourism Hall, CDO City Hall.
Finally, Engr. Sicangco visited the Volunteerism Expo held at Ayala Centrio Mall on December 3. The expo featured exhibits and booths of various local, national and international volunteer organizations and also offered volunteering opportunities to visitors.
TSU is co-organizing a similar expo on December 14 at SM City Telabastagan with the Pampanga State Agricultural University as the main organizer and several other government agencies as co-organizers. TSU and PNVSCA have an existing partnership which aims to mainstream volunteerism in the academe.
